First stop was for fuel, at Dartmouth you get fuel from a fuel barge based in the middle of the river. Of we set, but as another yacht was fuelling up we couldn't get on. After the yacht had finished the fuel barge upped and left. (this doesn't normally happen at the petrol station.) We hailed the fuel barge on the radio and he said he was heading to Endeavour Quay to refill, but to follow him there! definitely a different way of refuelling.
Chasing the fuel barge down the river. |
The fuel barge going into position to collect more fuel.
We really enjoyed both our stays on the River Dart, it really is a beautiful River.
As promised in the last blog, the Day Mark from the sea.
As we didn't have far to go we didn't mind sailing very slowly. The engine was off for just over an hour and it was very peaceful just gliding along. We did see a couple of dolphins but they were too far away to take photos.
After a couple of hours we arrived at Torquay. It was a nice berth facing the harbour wall, which was some distance away, so this meant total privacy.
We spent four nights at Torquay and managed a couple of walks and a visit to the pictures to see Yesterday. A film we can recommend.
Sailing Information
Distance from Dartmouth to Torquay - 11.6nm 2 hours and 9 minutes
A very well appointed marina with exceedingly friendly staff.
As it is part of the MLD group your nights go on the card - seventh night is free.
Very good toilet facilities.
The smallest laundrette ever, but there was a nice sofa out in the foyer. This was the first one without an iron. Apparently health and safety!
Torquay is a bit touristy but some if you choose where you go, its okay. Big town so lots of shops if you want.
Tesco Express not far from the marina.
